QotD: Summer Songs

What's the best summer song of all time?

I hope you can forgive me for all those nasty things I said, Question of the Day.  I think I love you.  This is the best question you've ever asked, and you all but asked it twice this week.  I'm genuinely sorry that this is that last day we'll spend together for a whole year.  At least we're going out on a high note.

QotD: Work Locale

Do you work in an office, at home, in the field or somewhere else? Would you change where you work if you could? What would you miss?

I gotta hand it to you, Question of the Day.  You're really bringing the banality this week.  (Except for when you're data farming, that is.)  I work in an office, and the only thing I would change if I could is moving that office closer to my house.  I used to think I wanted to move that office into my house, until I had the chance to do so.  I worked at home for about ten months a few years back.  It was fun for the first six months, and then it became utterly miserable.  I made a rash decision and took a terrible job that wasn't at all right for me just to get back into an office.  I hate people, but I miss being around them.  They're easier to loathe when you don't remove yourself entirely from their presence.

QotD: Eat Your Veggies

Today is "Eat Your Vegetables Day." What vegetable do you love to eat? Hate?

Thanks, Question of the Day, for asking a question that I've already answered.  You just made coasting through "I Question of the Day Week" that much easier.  I guess you missed it the first time, so I enjoy asparagus and broccoli and I won't touch brussel sprouts, lima beans, eggplant, or – above all – beets.  Beets are the worst.  And I still know that corn is not really a vegetable.  But that doesn't mean it's not delicious.

QotD: Those Were the Best Days of My Life…

What's the best summer you've ever had?

Now this is my kind of question, Question of the Day!  It might be the best question you've ever asked.  The answer is so obvious.  The best summer that I've ever had was the summer of '69.  When I look back now, that summer seemed to last forever.  And if I had the choice – yeah, I'd always want to be there.  Those really were the best days of my life.

QotD: Money in the Bank

How do you keep your finances on track? Are there any online tools you use to keep track of what you’re spending and where? When was the last time you were caught off guard (pleasantly or not-so-much) when you checked your bank account balance?
Sponsored by: My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle

Geez, Question of the Day, you're awfully nosy about my financial situation this week.  I know My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle put you up to it, but come on.  You don't have to do everything they say.  I mean, if My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?  Anyway, I'm rarely caught off guard by my bank account.  I keep close track of my finances.  I have to.  Hookers and blow are expensive.

QotD: It’s the Little Things…

Do you keep track of how much money you spend on non-essential luxuries, like gourmet coffee and snacks? Are there certain little indulgences you cannot live without no matter how tight your budget?
Sponsored by: My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle

What an interesting question, Question of the Day.  I can hardly believe that this one is sponsored by an outside source.  I have no idea why My LifeScoop: Bringing You Tips for a Connected LifeStyle would be interested in my spending habits on luxuries like gourmet coffee and snacks.  Nor can I imagine any use they would find in knowing whether or not there are any luxuries I can't live without despite a tight budget.  I am certain, however, that they don't care at all what those specific luxuries may be.  So let's just say I'm doing okay financially but I'll never be wealthy, and leave it at that.

QotD: Favorite Madonna Song

What's your favorite Madonna song?

Well this is a timely question, Question of the Day.  We listened to a playlist I made of my very favorite songs on the drive down to the beach yesterday.  My travel companion was surprised – having not seen the list in advance of hearing the mix – when "True Blue" came on.  I don't know why.  It's Madonna's best song, and second best isn't close.

god save the village green. maybe.

We're traditionalists around here.  We have respect for the old ways.  We seek to protect them from being abused.  That's why today – just as we have on June 12 every other year of this humble blog's existence – we're announcing that the content for the next week is out of our hands.  We're going to post nothing but answers to the Questions of the Day.  At least, we intend to.

You see, there's a catch this year.  In about an hour we're taking off for a long weekend on North Carolina's Outer Banks.  The issue isn't whether we can spare the time at the beach to hang out on Vox for a while each day.  Obviously we can.  But we don't know if the house where we will be has internet.  We'd like to think it does – this is the twenty-first century, after all – but we can't be sure.  And blogging much more than pictures from our phone is kind of a pain in the ass.  So, if it's convenient for us, yinz can look forward to testy answers to insipid questions.  And if not, there's something to be said for breaking with tradition.  Just don't tell Ray Davies.

QotD: Happy American Bike Month

May is American Bike Month. Do you own a bicycle? When was the last time you rode it? Where'd you go? Bonus points if you show us a picture of your bike!

Normally, I wouldn't do this.  I answer the Questions of the Day next month.  But I think maybe the Question saw an opportunity to lob me a softball after my poor showing lately, so I'll indulge.  Yes, QotD, I do own a bicycle.  I own two bicycles, in fact, though only one is American.  (I'm not sure if that matters.)  Her name is Christine, and she and I met in 2004.  We had a long and mostly good relationship, but I dumped her last year for a younger and more exotic model.  Marta is Spanish.  She and I went out just last Saturday.  We went up to Gettysburg to see the battlefield.  I now have really sexy tan lines on my biceps and my quadriceps.  This is Marta below, on our anniversary.

You can just barely see Christine – old and busted Christine – angling to get into the picture.  Poor girl.  She really needs to learn to let go.

bah bah dah shooby doo wah

We may have mentioned this before, but those that pay attention can track our general disposition through this humble blog.  We've noticed over the past three years a clear (to us) pattern of negligence when we are down.  Now just so happens to be one of those unfortunate times.  We've been fairly stressed out lately, and we've been dealing with the inevitable low after a long spring of being mostly up.  And despite our week-long dalliance with the Question of the Day, we feel hotrod.vox.com has not been getting the attention it deserves.  We had hoped to rectify that this evening with an off-topic and humorous personal anecdote, but nothing came to mind.  Or at least nothing that we could crank out in twenty minutes or less.

Then we remembered a couple of posts by Dabysan (before he jetted off to another hemisphere; god, we hate that asshole) about smooth music.  Those posts prompted us to re-watch the tremendous Yacht Rock series in its entirety one sleepless mid-June night.  This is our favorite episode.

Now that we think of it, "I'm The One" probably counts as a ba-ba song.
